Corsham weather the storm to take all the points

Corsham Town battled to a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Westfields FC in a blustery and tense encounter at The Taxtful Southbank. Mark Cooper was awarded Man of the Match for the second game running, epitomising the determination and work ethic that propelled Corsham to victory.

The opening exchanges were dominated by Corsham, with Matt Swan forcing the Westfields keeper into an early save with a thunderous effort from outside the box. Kye Simpson was a constant threat down the left wing, causing problems for the Westfields defence with his pace and skill. In the 10th minute, a flowing move involving Simpson and Jack Taylor resulted in a fierce strike from Taylor that was parried by the keeper, and Ethan Hill’s follow-up header was miraculously cleared off the line.

Corsham continued to press, hitting the woodwork twice but it was into the second half of the match before they finally broke the deadlock. Captain Matt Cooper rose highest to head in a pinpoint corner from Matt Jones, sending the home crowd into jubilation.

The then became a scrappy affair, with both sides showing plenty of attacking intent but struggling to create clear-cut chances. Westfields upped the pressure in the dying stages, but Corsham stood firm, with Mark Cooper marshalling the defence superbly. A late penalty appeal for the visitors was waved away by the referee, and Corsham held on to claim a deserved three points.

This gritty victory was a testament to Corsham’s resilience and fighting spirit. They grew into the game, eventually finding the winner through Cooper’s well-taken header. With Cooper awarded Man of the Match for the second consecutive game, his leadership and defensive solidity were key to securing the win.

Corsham finish the year top of the table and will be aiming to build on this positive result in the upcoming matches.
