Recap
A fairly even final pre-season friendly with the final scoreline rather flattering to the host, Paulton Rovers.
The first half saw both sides creating chances but neither keeper was called into action until Paulton where awarded a soft penalty when a Paulton player ran across the edge of the penalty box and appeared to clip Sean Keet and went down very easily. From the resulting penalty, Alex Hesley easily saved a poor attempt from the spot and the scoreline remained 0-0. Shortly afterwards the player of the first half, Paultons left winger, beat Matt Swan, drew Alex Halett out of position, beat him on the byline and crossed for a simple tap-in, 1-0 to the hosts. It was soon 2-0 despite Corsham having more than their fair share of the game and the first half finished with Corsham wondering how they were 2-0 down.
The second half started with Corsham well on top and Rusby running the show. Chances were created but still, the Paulton keeper wasn’t tested. Against the run of play, Pualton scored a third and when the referee turndown a stone wall penalty appeal it looked like Corsham wasn’t going to get anything from the game. Finial the pressure paid off for Corsham and the second penalty of the game was awarded to Corsham. Henry Sady calmly stepped up and pull a goal back for the visitors.
The glimmer of a comeback was snuffed out with 5 minutes to go when Paulton broke again to slot home a fourth.
A decent run out for the lads who shouldn’t be ashamed of their performance against a strong Paulton team that will be pushing for a playoff place in the Sothern League this season.
