Cup football and a local derby, both recipes for an upset and a revitalised Division One Devizes Town were determined to turn over the top of the Premier League Corsham Town in this Floodlit Cup First Round fixture.

Corsham Towns Keiron Baggs decided to rest a few players, but it all seemed to be going to plan for the home side when Plumber slotted away the first goal of the game early on and most spectators thought that the job was done and more goals would follow.

But Devizes had other plans, containing a number of ex-Corsham Town players and led by a former crowd favourite at the Southbank John Basley, they came back strongly and it was no surprise when they grabbed the equaliser.

So, penalties would decide the game, Corsham missed early on, but Alfie Presly saved the fourth Devizes attempt and was yellow carded for his celebrations. It went to sudden death and when Devizes missed their seventh penalty Corsham slotted home to go into the draw for the next round.

All in all a scrappy match that didn’t produce much quality from either side, but credit to Devizes Town is beginning to return to being a major club in Wiltshire.
