Recap

There were certainly no lads on the pitch in this scrappy battle on the plastic in Hereford on Saturday. The home of Herefordshire FA has always been a hostile place to go, and the home fans and bench were determined to make it as intimidating and unpleasant a visit as possible.
Corsham where missing key players from Tuesday night steam rollering of Bassett, with Dan Price, and Neikel Plumber away, Kane Simpson returning to Frome, along with the long-term injuries of Matt Swann and Dan Demkiv meant manager Keiran Bags had to choose a very young starting line-up.
In the early exchanges honours where even with both sides were making chances, Corsham started to dominate but the Lads went close hitting the post. The Lads contested every ball and refereeing decision with aggression and what they lacked in ability they more than made up for in determination and effort.
A goalless first half ended with quiet confidence that Corsham would go on and win the score half. Sady, Hobbs and Gilbert replaced Munday, Jones and Greenwood at halftime and within 15 minutes of the restart Alex Hallett popped up at the far post to bundle the ball home and it looked like Corsham could easily add more to the score line.
But there were some disappointing exchanges between the two benches following Alex’s goal and this seemed to spark the home team into action again. They came back strongly and after a short period equalised after some good work on the left wing saw a cross evade every Red shirt and the Lads right winger tapped the ball in unchallenged. This sparked further unprofessional exchanges on the benches.
The remainder of the game was a battle between two sides determined to get a winner but despite further changes for Corsham that saw Ellington making his debut in Red, the Quarrymen couldn’t find a way past a very hardworking Lads defence and a share of the points was a fair outcome.
Corsham came away grateful for a point and the Lads celebrated a very hard-fought draw, certainly not a place many clubs would relish coming to.
Man of the Match: Shaq Smith
